A very special doll from
Here is the most important doll in my collection. This is a Bruckner Topsy Turvy doll manufactured in 1901. The original ones were made on plantations during slavery. There are a few different theories on how the doll was used, but the most prominent one is that enslaved women made these types of dolls so that their children could secretly play with a doll that looked like them. By day the white doll would be displayed and at night the children would flip it to play with the black doll.
